Notes

I read my posts and discover how bad some of them sound. I apologize for that and will try to improve my writing style.

I wanted all you readers to know the Country Corner Greenhouse is open for your shopping needs. They especially have seeds, bulbs, potatoes, etc. ready for you.

We spent some time last week in one of my favorite places - Shipshewana, Indiana. We had gone to a funeral in Middlebury and had some time to just hangout. So I meandered around Yoder Department Store, Dad's Toy Store, and then had apple dumplings at the Blue Gate. It was very relaxing for me.

We have had some beautiful spring weather here in Oscoda County. Today is another one of those days with sunny skies, 60 degrees, and leaves popping on the trees. As I sit here writing this, I glanced across the road and see several deer eating at the edge of the woods. Our bird feeders provide an active area for the birds. We have also had three "beautiful" skunks under the feeder at different times. No, I'm not really fond of them but the one had a wide tail and was almost all white. He was fluffy and very pretty. I relish the nature around me.

Highland Lumber

Highland Lumber is a fairly new business in the Amish Community, opening within the past two years. Highland Lumber is a lumber yard with a full line of building material as well as hardware. You will find Dewalt and Makita power tools as well as other hardware. Split rail and privacy fencing is also available. Horse drawn equipment is also available which makes it good for the Amish farmers and tradesmen.

You will find Highland Lumber at 680 E. Kittle Road, Mio, MI 48647. The phone number is 989-848-8000.

Country Corners Greenhouse

Country Corners Greenhouse is located 1/8 mile south on Galbraith Road just off West Kittle Road north of Mio. It opens in the spring usually just before Mother's Day. I believe it is open Monday through Saturday until 5:00 p.m. At this time I do not have a phone number although I believe there may be a phone in the business.

Visiting the greenhouse is always a fun thing for me. I find fruit trees, shrubs, seeds, bulbs, potatoes for seed, vegetables plants, perennials, and annuals. I often purchase my vegetable and flower plants here. The hanging baskets are gorgeous, especially the wave petunias. There have always been hanging fuschia that are so beautiful. Gardening is one of my passions and it is always hard for me not to buy too many flowers and vegetables for the space I have.

In the fall you can get apples at the greenhouse. Orders are taken ahead of time and I know people who buy several bushel at a time. Last fall I went to see if there were apples available. I found Cortlands, MacIntosh, Delicious, Empire, and other varieties that I can't recall. I was surprised to see them all.

My pictures do not do justice to the business as you can see they were taken in the winter. However, they do show what the sign on Kittle Rd. and the buildingon Galbraith.
